Birds and Berries

The Sun was shining So I thought I had better make the most of it and take a walk down the fields and by the river. There are now Plentiful fruits and berries for all you foragers out there including blackberries, hawthorn berries, rosehips, elderberries and sloes. Sloe gin anyone??

Spied a couple of these pretty Speckled Wood butterflies hovering around the bramble bushes. Love their autumnal colours. : )

Down by the campsite the birdies were ignoring the berry bounty and feeding on seed that some kind campers left out.

By the brook the purple water mint is still in flower along with meadow sweet and Indian basalm.

Clitheroe Castle

Sorry I have been a bit sparse with my nature spotting recently. I must admit Jake is taking most of his walks round the castle now which is closer to our home than the fields. He is getting on a bit .Nearly 91 in dog years! Still he can run all the way up the Keep faster than me...which says alot about my fitness. Here are some of our shots from our walks this week including some beautiful butterflies. : )

Between the showers

Wandered down our usual haunts this morning, through the fields by the brook and on to the river.Of course the weather is being so eratic at the moment that one minute it was glorious sunshine, the next a torential downpour.I spied a gleaming kingfisher darting downstream though he was to quick for me.Jakey was good and quiet though when I snapped a couple of Jenny wrens. : )

Following Foxgloves

Spent the wknd in a cute cottage in Dufton near Appleby. We were meant to be camping but the recent rain put us off! In the end though we were quite lucky save for a bit of drizzle.: )
Dufton village green.

Everywhere we went there were beautiful foxgloves.

Wild Roses.

Look who I spied up a tree!

Jake fooling about in the river at Kirkby Stephen.

Sparrow taking a bath.

Over the moors to High Force waterfall and heres a vibrant common spotted orchid.

Think this may be Ragged Robin flowering a little out of season.

High Force, Forest in Teesdale.

Lapwing on the moors. Love them!

This partridge( I think) nearly hopped out of shot.

Meadow cranesbill
Anyway we were quite taken with The Eden Valley ( a little visited corner of Cumbria) and also found ourselves over the Moors oneday in Teesdale, county Durham which I have never visited before.Enjoy the pics....
